Trip Report | |
A beautiful sunny afternoon for our final walk of the season, with a lovely breeze to keep us cool in the heatwave.
The car park produced the first butterflies with some very fresh Common Blues along with several Chalkhills and a Small Skipper. |

We opted to take the lower path now that the steps have been re-opened and started the climb down to Church Ope Cove. About half way down we turned off through a gap in the bushes onto the rough path which took us onto the weares. All sorts of plants were seen including Portland Rock Sea-lavender and Small Scabious. |
Butterflies were everywhere and we ended up with quite a list including several Lulworth Skippers - Portland's rarest butterfly.
Moths were in evidence to with plenty of Six-spotted Burnets and Oak Eggars to be seen.
Best of all though was the view - the light was exceptionally clear for a hot summer's afternoon. |
