May 24th A singing Reed Warbler near Buxton Road was the only migrant found today, but lots of evidence of breeding behaviour with Blue Tits frantically hunting for food everywhere. In Rodwell Cutting a youn Magpie and a young Robin were seen, proving successful breeding nearby. May 16th Hundreds of Swallows were streaming over all day, flying into the wet north-westerly wind. A Goldcrest singing from a Leylandii at Downclose may have been a migrant or perhaps this is the first evidence of this species breeding on the trail. |
