This year a pair of Canada geese have decided to nest right in front of the North Hide at Radipole Lake.
I'm not a great fan of Canada geese but I thought it would be interesting to film them through the breeding season.
The first sequence was filmed last week, on the morning of April 28th.
The bird appears to have just one egg at this stage, it's just visible when she stands up.
Now we are six days on (May 4th) and there are at least two eggs in the nest.
You can also see the goose plucking down from her flank feathers and adding it to the windy side of the nest, presumably to stop any draughts chilling the eggs.
I'll add more videos as events unfold.
May 12th
It's now eight days later and only one egg is visible.
Most probably there are more eggs underneath it though.
The sedges are growing fast now so this may be the last time I can film the nest.
May 14th
Very wet weather today and our goose is sheltering the nest with her wings.
She also seems to be drinking water from her feathers, something I've never seen birds do before.
May 26th
The geese have been spending a lot of time off the nest lately.
Either the eggs are all dead or they are about to hatch.
In the background you can see the other goose family featured in the May 20th entry.
May 31st
With the nest abandoned for most of the time the inevitable happened today.
Presumably the eggs were all infertile anyway.
