Heavy snow overnight has come at just the wrong time for the thousands of meadow pipits that are migrating north through Dorset at the moment. Ground-feeding birds are hit particularly hard in this weather with all their food hidden under the snow. This group of pipits were lucky enough to find a snow-free area in the grounds of Portland Castle.
Rock pipits were in less of a problem as they always feed on the shoreline, which is nearly always ice-free even in the worst conditions. This one was filmed a year or so ago in Weymouth.
