Coombe Heath, East Lulworth
Tuesday October 2nd 2018
This Autumn has produced more Hornets than I have ever seen before, there was even one in Weymouth town centre. This one appeared to be chasing something on the ground, but closer inspection of the video shows that it was actually drinking water off some wet Oak leaves.
Not far away a sandy hollow on the open heath was home to huge numbers of Ivy Bees.
Here a bunch of male bees are trying to mate with a single female.
A year or two ago I filmed this colony of Ivy Bees on a sandy bank at the edge of Portland Harbour.
