Most of the waders we see at Ferrybridge are Arctic-breeding species, either spending the winter with us or just passing through. Oystercatchers on the other hand are not so migratory, generally spending all their time not too far from their nest site. This means that we get to see them all year round, including in spring when they are in peak condition, just before they start feeding their young.
We can also appreciate their breeding behaviour, and notice that they are not always as gregarious as they are in the winter! This pair are not at all pleased to be joined by a third individual at their nest site on one of the tern islands at Lodmoor.

This morning I had the chance to get some more footage (pixelage?) of a pair of Oystercatchers at Ferrybridge.
