Underbarn, Portland Harbour
Wednesday November 29th 2017
In the last blog entry I said how I failed to find the goosanders that I wanted to film.
Well I found them today.
There are two goosanders in the video, both females, along with cormorants and red-breasted mergansers.
I was actually here looking for a common sandpiper which I had heard calling last week and suspected of being the spotted sandpiper that had been at Abbotsbury until recently. I found it and confirmed that it was just a normal common sandpiper.
Behind me a heron was getting annoyed by an inquisitive egret.
All this was filmed from the same spot at the edge of Portland Harbour in the space of about 30 minutes!
The following week I managed to get some better video of the same goosanders, this time actively feeding.
